Women’s Health Center of Excellence
Equity Medical’s Owensboro, KY, location brings together experienced investigator leadership, established study operations, and a broad perspective on women’s health.
Led by Angela Dawson, MD, a board-certified OB/GYN and highly experienced Principal Investigator, the site is equipped for women’s health clinical trials spanning traditional OB/GYN indications and conditions that uniquely, disproportionately, or differently affect women.

A Broader Approach to Women’s Health
Women’s health extends well beyond reproductive care. Our approach considers three important areas:

Angela Dawson, MD
Principal Investigator
Dr. Angela Dawson is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with over 13 years of continuous clinical research execution and more than two decades of medical practice. In addition to her role as Principal Investigator at Equity Medical, she serves as the Medical Director of Women’s Health Services for Owensboro Health Medical Group. Trained at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Dawson pairs frontline patient advocacy with extensive site-level trial leadership across global protocols, medical devices, and diagnostic studies.
She has served as Principal Investigator for drug, device, and diagnostic trials across women’s health and reproductive medicine. Her investigative portfolio includes leading local trial execution for landmark maternal RSV vaccine studies for infant immunization, non-invasive radiofrequency and home-use urinary incontinence devices (PURSUIT, PUREST), point-of-care UTI and pregnancy diagnostic kits, and therapeutic studies for uterine fibroids and severe endometriosis (Vilaprisan, Elagolix).
Her background brings deep clinical insight and strong patient access to traditional OB/GYN protocols, urogynecology studies, maternal-fetal research, and the broader spectrum of conditions impacting women’s health.
Reaching Diverse Patient Populations
Historically, women—and particularly women of color—have been underrepresented in clinical research. Despite facing higher rates of complex conditions like uterine fibroids, severe maternal health complications, and metabolic disorders, women have long navigated a clinical trial pipeline where less than 10% of pivotal studies achieve enrollment matching true U.S. demographic diversity.

Equity Medical’s Owensboro site directly addresses these historic disparities by actively removing the systemic, logistical, and socioeconomic barriers that prevent women from participating in medical research. We operationalize equity through intentional trial design and execution:
Paired with our culturally competent clinical staff and deep-rooted community outreach throughout greater Owensboro, we build the long-term trust required to engage diverse and traditionally underserved female populations.
By combining accessible, patient-centered care with protocol-driven rigor, Equity Medical helps sponsors enroll fully representative, well-characterized cohorts—ensuring future therapies are safe, effective, and truly reflective of all women.
